Mon in Mon

I am back and settled in after an awesome weekend in Montreal and now I think I'm ready to blog a lil bit.

First off, I'd like to mention that very little pics were taken of the weekend basically due to the fact that a) there was too much fun goin on b) I forgot to bust out the cam c) I knew I was going to get hammered so I didn't bring the cam along.

There are some phone pics on both our phones, but I can't get them off mine and due to the situation I'd have to give preapproval for viewage from Mon's phone.

Okay so where were we? Ah. On Friday I got there around 6:30pm or there abouts. After getting settled in we headed down to the bar by her place for a few drinks. Since Monika was all pop-u-lar there we got ourselves a free plate of pasta, which I greatfully ate, but it wasn't really meal-worthy. Since that was the case after drinks we went to this Italian pizza place and got a couple slices each to take back to her place where we watched some Harold and Kumar (awesome!).

Later on, after the movie we went out with her cousin and a few other friends to a bar downtown. This place was packed with people and apparently we were pretty lucky to get a seat for the 8 (most of the time 6) of us. This was a pretty fun night. I got to know a couple of her friends Eric and Alex whilst drinkin some Stella Artois, which at first I didn't really like but it grew on me.

On Saturday we headed downtown for a walk around the city and chilled by a fountain for a lil' bit. As we were heading back from the subway the rain started raining a bit. By the time the 3 of us were near Mon's house it was coming down really hard. After we got inside and were sitting on the couch, we looked outside and it was raining like a mutha fucka. Considering what we were in, we got lucky.

Later on Saturday we went to her friend Cas's place. We played some ps2 Guitar Hero, which outside of easy mode, I sucked majorly at. After that it was on to NHL06 where I got my ass kicked twice, unfortunately.

We all then went into the kitchen and this is where I proceeded to get my ass drunk way beyond what I would consider cool. We played a drinking game with dice where you roll 2 and the answer would make a person drink, or chug the alcohol. To make a long story short, I got ass-faced beyond belief and spent the majority of the evening at Cas's toilet and then Monika's. I ended up sleeping on the floor as the couch didn't want me and my drunkedness.

With Saturday over, Sunday brought the ending of my trip. I got up ridiculously early, as I always seem to do after I drink a lot. Around 11am we headed out to meet up with a bunch of her friends for some Dim Sum to celebrate Eric and Neel's birthdays. I'd never had Dim Sum before, but I'd heard enough about it. The food ended up being pretty good. I ate shrimp for the first time since I was a kid, and I also enjoyed the BBQ pork, which everyone was raving about before hand. It was good times, with lots of people and lots of food. I enjoyed it a lot.

After that, with my bags in hand, I said goodbye to Monika and everyone as I had to go down to the bus station. I ended up getting a ride from Alex, and everyone went off to Tams, which I wish I could've went to now.

I had an hour and a half wait once I got there because I was so early. Also, my bus trip home was less comfortable than my bus trip there seeing as it was packed this time and I had to sit beside someone. I made it home in one piece, however.

I'd like to thank Mon for showing me a freaking amazing time for my first visit to Montreal. I would do it again no problem, if the opportunity arose.

Note: blogger is a biggity-bitch when it comes to me and uploading pics. It doesn't let me upload ones I want to show, but if i randomly did a pic it would do it no problem. Fuckin A.

*yawn* Long day

Since I was a little angered at not having done my outlet shopping on the way back from Darien Lake, I went out today to do a little making up!

I needed shoes anyway. My Pumas, god bless them, were getting old, and the flap thing on top was beginning to get on my nerves. Also hearing people keep asking me if they were soccer or baseball shoes got a little annoying.

So I went out looking for shoes. I found them. They're Pumas as well, but they're more along the lines of the Adidas superstar ones ala Run DMC. I would've preferred to stay along the lines of the sporty type shoe that I had, but these ones fit like a glove right off the bat so I took 'em.

Here's a pic of the same shoes:

So yeah, that's them. It took me a little contemplating to get over the plastic blob at the back, but after a bit it sort of grew on me. I also got a sweatshirt for when it gets cooler. It felt hot just trying it on in the AC of the store. Oh, and I got some pants as well; not jeans, and I'm happy for that.

Moving on. I think I'm totally excited about going to visit Monika tomorrow. I cannot wait! Now I gotta start packing most of my shite. Oh and I need to visit the bank as I'm low on l'argent.

I wanna SLEEP!!

peace.

Niagara Falls

After crossing the border our trip officially became a Niagara Falls visit.

We originally were just going to go eat at the Denny's there, but it turned into a couple hours spent sight seeing as well.
Let's go back a few minutes though. As we're driving to the restaurant, we were waiting at a light when this prick in the Impala starts backing up for no reason and ends up a nose hair away from hitting us. Kashaf was on the phone with his Dad and started honking the horn and didn't stop. The bastard got his license plate taken down by me. If you can't drive a standard car, don't fucking drive it! Ya'Jackass!

Denny's was pretty good. A little buttery for my tastes, but good. We were going to go to the one in the states but the weather was too bad we figured it'd be better to keep driving.

After Denny's we headed down the main road and popped in the WWE shop to have a look around. I don't really pay attention to wrestling that much anymore so most of the things there didn't interest me. I was looking for aposter of Stacy Keibler but they didn't even sell any posters there. Ah well.

After the WWE Store we headed down to this Marvel game building. I can't remember the name of it now. Anyway, it had a bunch of arcade games and all that. We bought some freakin $28 pass to go play mini golf, bumper cars and some Spiderman thrill ride. Waste of my god damn money if you ask me.

The mini golf was Hulk themed. It was so impossible to do well on it that by the end you ended up becoming the Hulk due to frustration. I guess point achieved.

The bumper cars were X-Men themed. This was the best one of the three except for the fact that it was only the three of us playing. It was still enjoyable though.

Last and probably least was the Spiderman thrill ride. Not thrilling at all. You ride around on this slow moving cart and show webs with your gun/hand thing at these laser targets all over. There's some story going on in the background for you to go along with, but it's so difficult to shoot these targets you spend more time worrying about that than the storyline.

After that not-so-amazing experience we made our way down to the falls. I got plenty of pics of both the American and Canadian side, as well as the Maid of the Mist boats. After we made our way to the end I picked up some fudge to bring home. Expensive but well worth it.

After walking the longest walk ever back to the Denny's where the Sidekick was parked, we headed home to end our trip once and for all.

Peace.

Darien Lake!!!

Note: I'll post more pics when Blogger lets me. Til then, enjoy!

After just about a full day of putting it off due to exhaustion, I've decided to finally post about my weekend at Darien Lake.

Okay so Friday I went down to Alex's place to wait for Kashaf to pick us up. I had all my stuff with me and ended up not forgetting anything; that is, until I was half way to Alex's and he called asking if I brought a stereo or boom box. Damn. I didn't. It was too late to turn back and we'd just have to deal with it. He ended up bringing his alarm clock radio, which was a poor excuse for music, but it was still alright nonetheless.

As you can tell I ended up having the incredible fortune of not getting shotgun for the ride. It wasn't that bad but still, the front seat is the shit, right?

On our way out of the country we had to drive through rush hour. The highways were packed, althought at some points not so much.

Our plan of using this adapter thing that plugs into the lighter and hooks on to some radio frequency to listen to my mp3 player ended up not working. So what we had to deal with was listening to this CD I made for our trip to Wonderland a while back. After we wore out that mix, we had to listen to the radio for the rest of the time.

Shortly after crossing the border we noticed a sign on the highway that said Bailey Ave. Fucking guy Kashaf decides to slow down on the highway for me to take the pic. I'm like OMG what are you doing?! It's not that important!! Luckily no traffic was coming and I got the picture and will cherish it forever. The funny thing is after we passed that sign there were like four more directly after it.

After driving through some back alley ways to get where we were going, thanks to Mapquest and it's toll free route, we finally arrived at Darien Lake!! We ended up getting there around 8 or 8:30pm and had time to go on a few rides before the park closed at 10pm.

That night we set up the chairs and camp fire and had a relaxing, yet awesome time, chillin to some hardcore alarm clock radio music. I bought a 24 of Labatt's Max Ice for Alex and myself to drink. They didn't have much selection at the Duty Free and I was kinda disappointed. But this stuff is like 7.5% or something so we got our buck for our bang, as it were. Didn't taste that bad either. So yeah, I don't know about Alex, but I ended up gettin a nice buzz on that night. I think I had around 8 or so in a couple hours.

Alex and I went walking around the camp site area with our flashlight before calling it a night; Kashaf had to get some work done so we left him alone to do it. We had a beer in our hands but we weren't really causing any kinda of raucus or something. We saw a security SUV (fitting, eh?) drive by us and head down towards another group of people that were at the bottom of the hill. We turned around to check what was up and then turned back on our way walking again. Next thing we notice is the security SUV come back and flash a huge fucking flood light on us. He asks, "How do you like having a light shone on you?" To that Alex replied, "I don't like it. Can you please shut it off?" The wannabe cop prick then goes on about how we were doing it on purpose and tells us to go back to our site. Fuckers. I hate securitah, they always gotta act tough.

The next day we woke up to clouds in the sky and rain falling from it. We were gonna go down to the park at opening but figured we'd just stay in and chillax for a bit. We ended up playing cards til it let up a bit around Noon.

The rest of the day was constant off and on rain. Sometimes misty drizzle, other times heavy freaking down pours; most of the time uncomfortable, yet tolerable. We went on quite a few rides and got a lot done. At night time it cleared up considerably and we could enjoy another campfire. We didn't end up drinking that much on the second night, only like 2 beers for me.

With the second day over, we woke up to the sun shining and thankfully no rain falling. We left pretty early, although not when the park opened. We planned to do the water rides for that day and a couple coasters again to finish it off. The water park at this place isn't that great. There's very little water pressure on the slide and at the start your ass always gets stuck til you lift it up and finally get on your way. We then went on the wooden ride, The Viper and the main attraction ride, Superman for the second time of the weekend. After that we played a couple games on the midway as we did the night before. This time I finally won prizes. I got my choice of a big doll but i chose two: Stewie and Brian. Kashaf had won a big Stewie and little Brian the night before and a I was hella jealous. He also won another small Stewie on Sunday as well as a lame snake he got for his neighbour across from him winning. Lucky Bastard!

After all that we got in the car around 3pm or so and headed off. As we drove out we waved good bye to Darien Lake, and I snapped my pictures on the way out as per usual. It was so nice outside we wouldn't have expected the next thing to happen. After getting gas and AMERICAN Timmy's (It was a glorious site to see), we drove down the road and the biggest storm ever began. It was thunderin and raining like a mutha out there. Cars turned into boats as roads turned into rivers. We could barely see out the windows it was raining so hard.

It was like that til we got near niagara falls when it let up to a normal rain storm. Okay I'll continue on another post about our time at Niagara Falls as I'm tired of typing for now.

Darien Lake, Bitches!

Tomorrow I'm leavin for Darien Lake with my two buddies and we're gonna have a hell of a time. I'm just here to say that I'll be gone from your bloggy lives for a few days. Although with my obsessiveness for all things Internet it'll likely be on Sunday night that I'll be visiting you all again.

I'm not bringing my laptop as I originally planned. It'll be a test of my willpower because I think going on the computer has, over the years, become an addiction. That seems too harsh of a word but you get my drift.

Today I had planned to get all my shite done for the trip. I didn't. I ended up waking up after 12pm and my day was essentially shot. I was able to make it to the bank and buy some American moula at around $1.15 CDN. Bullshit.

Tomorrow is going to be hella hectic. I've cancelled my driving range plans because of it.

I've got to go to the store and get chips and some other kind of junk food to eat. After that I'm heading to the Greyhound station at the mall near my house to buy my bus ticket to visit Miss Monika in Montréal. Then after that I'm heading down to my barber's to get a haircut. I don't really need one but it'll be my only time with the car as my mom is back to work next week and I've got my weekends booked.

After I've done all that I'll get ready and perhaps head down to Alex's place and wait with him while Kashaf comes to pick us up. We're leaving a couple hours earlier too so that means we may get time to visit the park for like an hour or so if we're lucky.

So yes, I'll not be commenting or chatting with any of you and I'll be thinking of you as I'm adventuring. Plenty of pics will be had, but only a select few will get to see more than what I decide to post. Bwahahahaha.

Peace.

Chillin' Out Maxin' Relaxin' All Cool...

Ahh, only a couple days left before I'm on holidays!!! I can't wait!

First off: This weekend will be killer. We're heading down to Darien Lake (In NY State) on friday afternoon. We'll get there pretty late, but that's unavoidable because of schedule conflicts. No biggie. I don't mind if Friday night will consist of unpacking and relaxing to some music and one too many beers. Saturday will be spent mostly at the park going on all the rides and whatnot. I know a lot of people will be there but I hope it won't be packed because I wan't my money's worth dammit! We'll leave Sunday in the PM and hopefully we'll be able to do some outlet shopping as I've been looking forward to that for some time now.

During the week life may not be as eventful, but that's totally up to me and what I do with my time. I really don't mind staying at home for a couple days and chilling the fuck out to the best of my abilities.

Then the next weekend will be the trip of all trips as I'm heading over to Montréal to visit Monika! It's so weird and spontaneous of me, but I figured, 'Hey, why not?!' and so I'm doing it. Oh and it's cheap as hell to bus it so that was another major factor. I'm sure it'll be a great time perhaps (definitely) filled with a drunken haze. I've never been to Montreal so I'm looking forward to doing it very much.

For my final week I don't have much of anything planned but I'll let the chips fall where they may and have a fun time doin whatever lands in my lap.

Now only to survive the next two days at work and I'll be set! Oh God I don't want to go in :(

Peace.

HOT DAY!!

Today I took in a Jays game with a few buddies. It just happened to be the hottest day of the year and we just happened to have seats not located in the limited shade of the Rogers Centre.

We of course decided we didn't want to spend much money so we got the cheap seats in the bleeders. They cost $8.92 each, so well worth the price.

After a while of baking in the sun, I'd notice my arm had a nice glistening of sweat on it. I was hardly even moving at all! I'd even felt sweat dripping down the sides of my head it was so hot. Oh yeah it felt like 43 Celsius or something, with the humidity. And the game started at 1pm.

About half way through I bought a ridiculously priced Labatt Blue. Even though I don't really care for them, they're still better than Bud Light. So yeah, that did me well enough in that heat, and considering I hadn't eaten anything for the day I was quite content, if you will.

Back to the game I guess. Towards the 7th it started getting fuzzy, as my brain began to literally melt. My contacts started moulding into my eyes. I'm so glad I decided to wear shorts and my jersey so I could somewhat breathe during the hell.

To make matters worse, the Jays closer BJ Ryan decided to blow the save in the bottom of the 9th, allowing Seattle to tie it up. This meant extra innings. Oh the growns from the crowd (me) were loud.

Each half inning I think I descended further and further into insanity. Every time a batter came up, I wanted them to hit a homerun to end it. Every time a pitcher was able to get a batter out, I wanted to strangle him. I couldn't even cheer anymore. I had become mush. It was coming to the point where I wished the game would keep on going so the sun could set a bit and we could relax.

That never happened, and in hindsight I'm thankful.

The Jays were able to single in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win it to the delight of the crowd (especially me). Funny enough after the game finished I felt alive again and ready to take on the world! :P

It was a great time. I saw a couple friends I hadn't seen in quite a while, and others I hadn't even met before. Good times, good times.

Hot though.

Peace.

Don't you put it in Your Mouth

I remember this commercial airing on TV from when I was a little kid so needless to say as I've gotten older I've remembered the song. However, the song has taken on a twisted life in my mind. When listening to it, do you not think it sounds like they're against giving oral sex? Have a listen/watch:

And you FireFox people should let me know if it screws up again.

TV Shows that Influence My Daily Life

I seem to be on some list trend as of late and I'm not about to stop soon :)

Here are my top 5 TV shows that play their way into my everyday life. They can be through acting out certain behaviours, perceiving an event in a specific way, mimicking characters..etc.

Number 5: MadTv

The influences from this show don't seem to stop. I find myself doing Stewart impressions, even though he's old and lame now. I do other various noises from the show as well and also the guy who does the Ja Rule impressions is amazing at that. Oh, and Bobby Lee is the shit in every sense of the word (except the actual meaning).

It's a great show because even though the cast is revolving, like SNL, it continues to grow and maintain that lesser known status in comparison to the same SNL (even though it's ratings are amazing).

Number 4: Seinfeld

What can I say about Seinfeld? It's entire storyline is about nothing, yet it's bred an endless amount of jokes and observations that people can point out in real life.

Number 3: Chappelle's Show

For me Chappelle's show has allowed me to completely make an ass of myself with my lame impersonations. I don't think a day goes by where I can't manage to not do an impersonation of one of his characters.

Number 2: Family Guy

Ever since the Superbowl premiere a few years back I've been hooked on this show like it was crack. While critics may not like it for it's uncreativity when it just makes random joke after random joke followed by flashback after flashback, I do. I don't watch a cartoon for it's plot or storyline necessarily, but for the laughs it gives me, and Family Guy gives me plenty.

Oh and there are plenty of crappy impersonations here as well.

Number 1: The Simpsons
Ah yes, The Simpsons. They're the ones that started this whole adult situation cartoon phenomena we've noticed over the past 20 years.

Again every day I notice some situation that fits with The Simpsons or I can definitely say that I act out many different Simpsons-esque behaviours and comments throughout my day.

While we're on the topic of TV, I haven't watched much of it at all lately. I managed to catch a large part of The Colbert Report while eating dinner last night. So I think that brings my total TV watching time to about 1 hour this week. I think that's a good thing, but somehow I don't know. It is a good thing, however, that I don't have to work so much during the actual seasons of shows or else I'd be going nuts.

Peace.

My Top 10 Beautiful Women

For the many of you who are wondering who in celebrityville I find attractive I have compiled a top ten list for you. I've got to tell you though that this list isn't fool-proof and there's someone who I haven't put on that I'd go "Damn! Why didn't I put her on?" that a commenter will mention, no doubt.

Here it goes...

Number 10: Stacy Keibler - 26 year old performer born in Baltimore, Maryland. She has starred in Dancing with the Stars and on WWE. This woman has legs til no end and she's just gorgeous all around.

Number 9: Kristin Kreuk - 23 year old actress born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. She stars on Smallville and in Neutrogena commercials. On this list she probably shows off the least skin, but that doesn't matter. She's incredibly gorgeous.

Number 8: Vanessa Marcil - 37 year old actress born in Palm Desert, California. Has acted in General Hospital and on Las Vegas. I think I first saw her on Head & Shoulders commercials a lonnggg time ago. But she's on Las Vegas now and as hot as ever.

Number 7: Josie Maran - 28 year old model born in Menlo Park, California. Has done modelling for Maybelline and starred in Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I saw her in some Sports Illustrated swimsuit model show a few years ago and she stuck with me :P

Number 6: Keira Knightley - 21 year old actress born in Teddington, Middlesex, England. Starred in films such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Domino. I don't know what it is about her, but I just know she's incredibly beautiful.

Number 5: Angelina Jolie - 31 year old actress born in Los Angeles, California. Starred in films such as Taking Lives and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Okay that picture says enough.

Number 4: Kate Hudson - 27 year old actress born in Los Angeles, California. Starred in films such as Almost Famous and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. I think I started liking her in Almost Famous when she played Penny Lane. In How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days she was cemented as a favourite of mine.

Number 3: Jessica Alba - 25 year old actress born in Pomona, California. Starred in films such as Sin City and Into the Blue. I think I've been attracted to her since she was on Flipper when I was younger.

Number 2: Scarlett Johansson - 21 year old actress born in New York city. Starred in films such as Lost in Translation and The Island. I never used to be attracted to her until I saw Lost in Translation. Then I began to notice her "hawtness" everytime.

Number 1: Rachel McAdams - 28 year old actress born in London, Ontario, Canada. Starred in films such as Mean Girls and The Notebook. She's just so hot. Brunette or Blonde she seems to pull off either with ease. I thought she was gorgeous in Mean Girls, but in The Notebook she's freaking immaculate (yes, that's right).

Alright so there you have it folks, my top ten most beautiful celebrity women out there today. I think blogger was telling me something because I've been trying to get this post finshed for about a day or two now. It wouldn't let me upload more than like 5 pictures, and sometimes not even any.

Okay so lemme know what you think. Left any glaringly obvious ones off my list? You know you wanna mention them so go ahead ;)

Peace.

You're super, man

Haha..all joking aside I went, wait, I was beckoned to go see Superman Returns tonight. To be honest I was TRYING to plan a night out on some patio drinking some alcoholic beverage(s), but it wasn't meant to be.

Okay so on to the movie.

Kal Penn drives boat.
Kal Penn cuts crystal.
Kal Penn drops crystal into water.
Kal Penn looks comically scared.
...
Kal Penn builds a projectile launcher of some sort.
...
Kal Penn plays cards.
Kal Penn kicks Superman.
Kal Penn squashed.

Okay so maybe that wasn't the movie but do you see what I'm seeing? The guy does a bunch of stuff. He gets an decent amount of camera time for a minion, but he says NOTHING.

Throughout the entire movie I was having to create lines for the poor guy. When they showed a closeup of his head after dropping the crystal I pictured him saying: "Dude, I'm so high right now." When I saw him another time I thought: "Dude, lets go to White Castle." When I saw him kicking Superman I envisioned him saying: "Dude, what did you do with all our weed?!!"

Oh and the movie was pretty good. A more coherent review is on the side panel for a limited time :)

Peace.

Annoyed

I am tired of working in the afternoons from 3pm, check that, 1:30pm when I leave, to 11pm, check that again, 12:10am when I get home.

I'm tired of it all not because of the work, which I'm actually, for the first time in a long while, enjoying immensly, but because I'm missing out on time spent with friends and family.

This was one of the major reasons I wanted day shift to begin with. I'm happy with my job as it is now so this complaining isn't so deeply rooted that I can't stop. It's only until September when I go back to school that I'll be working so much, so not that much of a deal.

I just hate feeling so out of the loop in the daily goings on of my friends. As much as I try to do stuff on the weekends I feel disconnected at only sharing one night or something to catch up on how things have been.

My schedule is messed up because in the mornings I'm too tired to do anything and no one is really available then anyway. And at night after I've showered and eaten, it's usually too late for any normal person to be online.

I think this was a major part of why I went nuts during my year off to work. I became such a shut-in (atleast I felt that way). Even if I don't do anything with friends on a daily basis, because they're working as well or whatever the case may be, the remote possibility of being free to do something makes me satisfied.

Bah, I know this was an extremely bitchy post but I felt the need to do it.

Peace.

Maybe I'm Crazy. Possibly...

Tonight after work finished, everything was going as normal as it possibly could go. That is until I was waiting for the second bus to come that I decided to take a seat behing the bus stop area. It was on the outer cusp of a miniplaza under a tree, in the dark, but still only feet from the bus shelter.

I never sit on this bench at night, as I prefer to stand while waiting. Tonight my mind made special note of myself wanting to sit down, as if saying to me 'I'm not feeling too good about this. Are you sure you want to do it?' and me ignoring it as usual.

So moments after I sit down to relax I look to the right, just beyond the shelter and I see three young (maybe 17-19 years old) black guys crossing the road. As I usually do with most people, I looked at them, and in this appraisal I figured they were no threat; not worth worrying about. So I turn away to my left, and begin watching for the bus again.

As I'm watching for the bus, the boys come into my eyeline again, this time they're walking around the shelter and approaching the bench I'm sitting on. It's a large enough bench that wraps around a tree-shrub garden-type contraption. I'm listening to my Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere (post title - clever, eh?) album and I hear one of them say something to me. So I take out my earphone and ask 'what's up?' One of them just said 'hey, how's it goin?', and continued talking between the three of them about their 'not using a condom because it's annoying' conversation, that I found quite amusing.

The point here is me being apprehensive about a few kids encroaching in my personal bubble as it were. But most of all, I find myself asking is it because they were black that I was most worried? I can truthfully say no to that though. What bothered me the most was being taken out of my comfort level in listening to my music and having to deal with strangers being so upfront and talking to me; it's not my style and catches me off-guard most times.

It still brought up the question in my mind about the reaction black youth get just because they're dressing like a gangsta and talkin a lot of shit. Most of the time I believe they're just bullshitting anyway and trying to impress their friends.

I'm not a racist and I hate how people are, but what I truly hate most is, even though I'm not, it's almost engrained in me to react a certain way to certain people (I believe it's called stereotyping), even though my logical self is saying 'there's nothing to worry about' the entire time.

That marks two times in the span of about five minutes that I should have listened to my inner-self more and I would have saved myself the drama. In the end however nothing came of the situation and my bus finally arrived for my calm, sleepy ride home.

Peace.

Money come back!

Yesterday I found out the cost of my school tuition for next year. I was shocked. I didn't think it'd be so much at around $2,500. Granted it's not NEARLY as much as a university or something, but since I had a second semester of job placement I figured it'd be significantly less.

We've got about 10 days to pay for it so by then I figure I can have a nice sum left over. I also have to have money for my Darien Lake trip coming up about the week after so I'll be feeling so poor come mid-month.

I guess after that I'll have to *sigh* start paying attention to what I do with my money again. OR maybe I won't and I'm just worrying about nothing :). I want to be able to go out basically whenever I'm asked this summer and so far I think I've done pretty well, so I don't feel like stopping just yet. The good part of it all is that after paying for school I won't have to worry about paying for anything except for bills!

Pi = 3.14

Today I finished reading Life of Pi by Yann Martel. It's a story told by Piscine Molitor Patel, nicknamed (by himself) Pi because of various childhood taunts and teasings, about his growing up in Pondicherry, India and of his not-so-normal trip to his new life in Canada.

The story begins with Pi telling the writer, Martel, about his life growing up in Pondicherry at the Zoo owned by his father and where his family, including his mother and brother lived. He would talk about his childhood influences that caused him to study Zoology and Religious Studies at the University of Toronto. They were an athiest teacher and a poor muslim who lived in the area. They both went by the same name, but had such different qualities between them.

The story also chronicles the young Pi's hunger for religious knowledge growing up. He was raised Hindu, although his family did not appear to be outright religious. He developed the need to know about other religious practices including Christianity, Judaism and Islam. This presented some ovbious troubles when three religious men, the priest, rabbi and imam came to speak to his parents at precisely the wrong time (all at once).

Finally the "real story" begins. Pi and his family are set to leave Pondicherry zoo for Canada, where they are set to live their brand new life. They must travel with the animals they are transporting on a cargo ship not suited for passenger travel, necessarily. This ship comes into contact with a rather large storm and his sunk. Pi is left alone on a life raft, the sole survivor of the ship as everyone else has perished. The twist comes when we find out that Pi is on the life boat with four rather unexpected guests.

The ordeal of being abandoned in the Pacific Ocean would follow and Pi would take the reader on an incredible journey of epic proportions. He would describe in detail many different events that would happen with him and his co-castaways. Pi would be cast at sea from July 2, 1977 to February 14, 1978; perhaps the longest living castaway of all time.

The end of the story presents a new twist for me. I ended up believing the events happened the way they did and were not ficition (even though it's plastered all around the book and is found in the fiction section of the book store). I don't know the feeling I feel knowing what I was told throughout the entire book was fake, and that the entire story was summed up in around two or three pages at the end. However, I do feel that the story had a bigger meaning than any real story could have provided and it in itself was incredible and I would recommend it to anyone, if you haven't read it yet.

It says the book will make the reader believe in God, but it didn't change anything for me. I didn't find it a religious experience, although religion played a big part in this story for Pi. I found it an incredible book of survival and incredible good fortune when Pi was on his last straw. However I can also see how someone could find the book holding a lot of religious signs in the same good fortune that Pi received and in the strength he gained from his faith.

Peace.
